The times they are a changin...

My eldest daughter has been sewing wee dolls for many years now, and it is with great pride that I have watched her design and create her first collection of mermaid plushies (which in the common parlance of the good old days are "stuffed toys") and make her own Etsy shop TheIvyTide.

I'm not crying, really I'm not. Just the sun in my eyes - making them water.

Here is a wee video of her progress over the years.

The other little ones, not to be outdone, have created their very own dog - due to the lack of dogs on tummy mountain.

He gets dragged around on a rope and barks as he goes round corners.

I can't believe that a month has gone by. It has been very busy for me on tummy mountain, and while I rushed back and forth all stressed and bothered one day last week I came upon footprints in the hallway.

Not wet footprints.

Not muddy footprints.

They were small footprints.

Wee Small footprints.

And Wee Small had clearly been trampling in glitter.

Gold glitter.

I didn't know we had glitter, and if I did, I didn't think we had that much glitter!

I was having one of those days when you ask yourself  "do I really need to clean up gold glitter as well?!?!"

So I followed the footprints to their destination - Wee Small's bedroom.

Inside the bedroom was even more glitter! Glitter over everything! It was a glitter explosion in every colour!

A glitter covered Wee Small was casting even more glitter around the room whilst dancing.

"What on earth are you doing!??!?" I asked in shock.

"I am making my room magical" Wee Small replied.

One day, when we returned home from a holiday, these sweeties with their big round tummies and their very cheeky personalities, were waiting to meet us...

new adventures

The little ones and I are off to the snow. The little ones haven't really been in the snow before... well once before...and that was a bit we will not be around for a few weeks. But I am sure we will be back soon with some new adventures to share!

The food stories continue on tummy mountain - not surprising really as the little ones and I like to think about our tummies and what we can put in them.

Wee Small had this unusual observation to make this morning about fluffy clouds.

"Wouldn't it be good if clouds were made of mashed potato, and when it rained - it rained mash potatoes."

- a very practical idea indeed.

new friends

I opened the fridge this morning only to find this guy smiling up at me.

I can't be certain, but I am pretty sure, that this is the happiest turnip I have ever met.

poached potato

A Gourmet Delight

The Little One, being the Eldest, described to me the preparation for this delicious sounding dish - Poached Potato

Step 1.  Squish the potato

Step 2.  Squish that potato so all the skin comes off - you can use a hammer and rocks for this.

Step 3.  Take all the skin, roll it in a ball and tie that up with string.

Step 4.  Get scissors and cut an opening into the ball.

Step 5.  Stuff sugar and butter into the opening.

Step 6.  Then flatten the squished bits

Step 7.  Stick the peelings ball into that.

Step 8.  Then boil it at 22 hundred and eighty five degrees for ages

Once it is done you can put that green stuff from restaurants around it.

A Game of Chance

The little ones have discovered a pack of cards.

"There are four kingdoms," explains The Little One (being the Eldest, she know lots about all kinds of things.)
"There is Kingdom Diamonds, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Clovers, and Kingdom err... Kingdom...Um.."
"Kingdom Lollipops?" suggests Wee Small.
"No! That's silly! It's Kingdom Leaves!" responds The Little One.
"I'm going to call it Kingdom Lollipops!" replies Wee Small, but The Little One isn't listening. She is thinking...

The Little One thinks maybe that Kingdom isn't called Leaves and asks me.

"The 'suit' is spades." I say, being pedantic, and robbing them of their delightful use of the word Kingdom.

"So... that means I'm the Queen of Spades..." says The Little One to Wee Small.
"And I'm the Queen of Manatees!"says Wee Small with a great big happy smile on her face.
"No, you can't be the Queen of Manatees!" responds The Little One.
"And I am going to draw a Manatee on my cards!" continues Wee Small.
"No you can't draw on the cards!" shouts The Little One.
"Yes I can!" Wee Small shouts happily back "I am going to draw Manatee on this one, and Hoot on this one, and Turtle on this one. On the rest I am going to draw horses!"

I was secretly thrilled to see how the vandalism of the pack of cards was going to affect the game, but unfortunately The Little One, being the Eldest, and the voice of reason, stopped the cards being drawn on.

Except, maybe this one.

Who knows what they are playing!

Tummy Mountain joins in The Big Parade

*Edit - well I had a great time, though I didn't get a single question about rolling down hills. On the upside a mysterious french stranger has posted a message in the comments! I am sure it is a secret message!*

There is a thing called Etsy Success Sydney coming to Sydney, Australia as part of the Vivid Festival of Light, Music, and Ideas. The CEO of Etsy Chad Dickerson will be there, and a whole host of other people, and I will be there, shaking hands, smiling, waving, that kind of thing. I have been invited to represent the views of small people on Tummy Mountain.

Hopefully we will have a parade.

On June 2nd I am part of a workshop "Tips from Top Sellers" with Samantha Battersby of MatouEnPeluche and Jessica Van Den Wassenberg of Epheriell, and Danielle Maveal from Etsy will be moderating. The little ones and I looked up the word moderating in the dictionary and we found out that it comes from the word "moderate" and we found out that it means "in the middle." So Danielle Maveal will be sitting in the middle. I will probably sit on the edge. Actually I am not very good at sitting. I tend to lean on my chair and get in trouble. Maybe I'll sit on the floor.

This workshop is a good thing as I am an expert on tips.

I can tell anyone everything they need to know about running back and forth, spinning around on the spot with your eyes closed, rolling down hills, and carving faces into potatoes. What more can anyone possibly want to know?

magic misunderstandings

Microcosmos is a wonderful documentary about insects and life filmed in a field in France somewhere. That is of course, if you are fascinated by beetles, snails, and butterflies. Needless to say, it is a hit with the little ones.

And even more unexpectedly with Wee Tiny. But I believe for the wrong reasons. The cover may explain this.

She insists that she is watching "Buggies on the Moon."

unexpected surprises

Today the little ones and I were on a jetty.
The little ones were feeding the lunch I had prepared for them to the fish that swim beneath.
So they were looking in the right direction (and I was not) when a wee penguin swam by.

a penguin may be seen somewhere out there

I was disappointed to miss the penguin, but glad that it enjoyed something I had prepared earlier.

Wee Small (who is not so small as she use to be, but still, rather small) is learning to read. This doesn't mean that she doesn't like a bedtime story though.

After reading her a bed time story, tucking her in, and putting the light out, I trundled off to continue whatever repetitive meaningless tasks that must be fulfilled daily.

Later on I peeped into her wee room to see her sleeping sweetness. But no! She wasn't asleep! She had a torch and was reading aloud to the cat that was purring on the end of her bed!

I wasn't too surprised the cat was enjoying the story. Wee Small was reading to him "The Cat in the Hat."

festival of the rabbit...

Festival of the Rabbit has been and gone... yet the chocolate smeared fingerprints everywhere I look leave a nostalgic record of the event.

back and forth

I have been back and forth and back and forth all this month and the last one. It's ridiculous I tell you! With all of that travel and the inclement weather I decided that the little ones might enjoy travelling too - to the Land of Water Parks.

They have not been to a Water Park (and I have not been to one since I was a little one) and they may find water slides (in the case of The Little One - being the eldest) and splashing about with a bucket (in the case of Wee Tiny - being the tiniest) a lot of fun.

To my surprise they were not very enthusiastic. So I asked what they would rather do.

Wee Tiny asked if they could go cloud riding instead.

What can I possibly say to that?

whiling away the hours

Still raining...

It has rained all summer. Really. All the summer has been wet wet wet.
The little ones have not been happy at all about the rain. It has been a disaster.

So to brighten things up I suggested they help me fold the washing. What could be more fun!

Wee Small sorts the socks.
Wee Tiny sits on all of the clothes and gets in the way, and gets grumpy when this is pointed out to her. Oh well...
The Little One, being the eldest, is quite helpful. She can be a folding clothes Leviathan - if such a thing makes sense.

"This is my monster t-shirt," said The Little One, "and when I fold him and put him away he is always RRRRAHAHAHHAR-Side-Up!"

I'm quite impressed. And that is how I am going to have my eggs from now on.

It has been raining on tummy mountain. It has been raining for weeks. The little ones have been spending a lot of time indoors, only going outside so they can track mud back into the house.

During one of the rainy spells Wee Small told me a story in which someone was "unbarrassed."
I can't remember the nature of the story now as I was so taken with the word "unbarrassed."

I am assuming that a person can be embarrassed, and the only way to stop this is to "unbarass" oneself. Which makes me wonder how does one unbarass oneself as quickly as possible. I usually try pointing out the window at something, like the rain, but that never works.

"Bear" Manatee

I think Manatee may have been watching too much Bear Grylls in "Man vs Wild," and may need to concentrate a little harder on geography instead.

Happy Next Orbit of the Sun

Seems hard to believe that another year has rolled by. We have all done yet another orbit of the sun.

TuMS has reported that tummy mountain is in the same position in space as it was a year ago. This news has been greeted by the cicadas with complete indifference. They seem to be only concerned about the Kookaburras, who like to eat them.

I suppose... if I was them... I would be more concerned about the Kookaburras too, than abstract concepts about our relative position in space.

Another year gone, and The Little One (being the eldest) has declared herself "a life authoritist." I think this is a good thing. She seems pretty sure about a lot of things. I am more uncertain about a lot of things.

One of the things Tummy Mountain's newly appointed Life Authoritist has told me is to avoid "panthemists."
Wee Small nodded in agreement with this wise statement.
I am uncertain what a "panthemist"actually is.

Is it a panther? Is it a phantom? Is it a phantom panther? Is it a person who studies phantom panthers?

They cannot tell me. All The Little One can tell me is to avoid them.

I assure them that I will avoid panthemists.

So there you have it.

And so it is time for the little ones to wave to you all that have followed them and their adventures over the year, and have shared with us all your little one's adventures too, as all these wee little ones (and us not so little ones) try and make sense and nonsense of this world around them.

Happy Next Orbit and Avoid Panthemists
