distant friends

One day Wee Small climbed all the way to the top of tummy mountain to see what she could see.
And there smiling at her from way away across the other side of the valley was another little one on another mountain.

I wonder who it could be.

things that go bump in the night

Thumps, bumps and crashes awake me in the darkness before dawn. It is the familiar sound of very small and cute possums running across the roof, the mummy carrying the little baby on it's back. The smallest of the small is awake too. She tells me its either a wildebeest or an angler fish on the roof and that I have to check.

Standing in front of our little place I can see no wildebeest or angler fish on the roof. I listen to the dawn chorus of birds as the sky turns pink. I hear a different noise though, and I turn to look. One of the little ones is already on the swing. What a lovely way to start the new day.

a piece of tummy mountain: chapter 3

Some may have thought that while the Cuteness election campaign was going on that this large artwork may have stopped. Alas no, as most of the little ones on tummy mountain were too busy playing to pay much attention to the elections.

There is an awful lot of grass on tummy mountain.
That is why we need big rabbits.
In documenting accurately the events that occur here I have to paint a lot of grass.

Now I can see them!

The river is always the most fun.

Though a good bit of play is fun too.

mode of transport and more

Elections? What elections. No time for that anymore. The little ones have moved on to new adventures.

Occasionally followers of this blog may have wondered out loud to themselves in the stillness of the morning "I wonder how all that grass is kept to a reasonable length on tummy mountain. It must be quite a task."

The answer is quite simple. Very big rabbits.

It's a landslide!

It's been a tight campaign and now the results of the "Cutest of All" election are in.

The little ones have come in twelfth!

"Twelfth?" says Wee Small "Is that a number?"
"Yes" says Wee Tiny, "It's really good. It goes One, Four, Twelfth, Eight, Nine, Eleventeen. "

Then they run out to play with the giant rabbit.

Vote 1 Tummy: Day 6

Tonight the candidates have participated in the "Cutest of All" election debate. Polling is close, but it seems that Wee Small may have won the debate due to her very persuasive statement "orange is my favourite colour."

Edited highlights:

The Small One: I like to eat carrots and I like to eat lettuce and I like to eat apples but I don't like to eat pumpkin and I like to eat tomatoes but I don't like to eat mushrooms

Wee Small: (sings) pyjamas pyjamas pyjamas pyjamas

Wee Tiny: I have a snail

Vote 1 Tummy: Day 5

As the cuteness campaign heads towards the finish line questions are beginning to be asked about some of the election pledges of the candidates. Under scrutiny some of their promises are looking a bit flimsy. In fact I am beginning to think that these little candidates are just saying anything to get themselves elected! Now that would destroy my faith in the democratic process.

Wee Small's promise of "a rabbit in every home" has not been costed at all. And what is her definition of home? Does that include bird nests? Ant hills?

The Tiny One's promise of a "free trip to the moon and stars" will possibly exhaust all the available sticky-tape in the treasury. In her defense she has stated that she has nearly finished making the balloon that will take them there.

Vote 1 Tummy: Day 4

The scuttlebutt from tummy mountain is that the candidates have put their differences behind them and have been out meeting the residents of tummy mountain as part of their cute campaign. The Smallest of All has spoken with a couple of ladybirds and a rabbit. Wee Tiny and Wee Small have spoken to the very same lizards, and The Tiny One has had quite an in depth chat about her mandatory policies with a very large rock.

Vote 1 Tummy: Day 3

Election officials had to intercede today when a bucket of mud was emptied over the head of the candidate Wee Small. A witness at the scene provided this sketch.

The Small One responded that mud slinging was all in a days work for any politician.

Vote 1 Tummy: Day 2

In the politically feverish hothouse of tummy mountain the normally trust worthy denizens have resorted to skullduggery in the extreme. In particular the election campaign took a turn for the worse when The Smallest of All was discovered drawing moustaches on the Tiny One's election posters.

It is day 2 of what is shaping up to be a long and arduous campaign that will have everyone switched off by the end. The Small One is accelerating this process by referring to herself in the third person.

So Wee Small filled her bed with mud.

Vote 1 Tummy: Day 1

The elections have swung into full force on tummy mountain. People may have been distracted with other minor elections recently but now it is time for the main event. It is up to the people to decide democratically who is to be elected the cutest of all.

If elected Wee Small says she will allow all small people to keep lizards in their room.

The Smallest of All says she will let everyone have chocolate for breakfast.

The Small One will outlaw shoes.

The Tiny One will say "mandatory" alot.

The Little One is standing on a platform of kindness to ladybirds.

Wee Tiny is standing on a platform (she is very small).

You have heard the nominees. Now rush out and vote!

in disguise

Sure you can dress up like fairies, frogs, or firemen, but sometimes on tummy mountain you need to go unnoticed, blend in with the crowd, flitter by like a shadow on a wall. On those occasions it helps to be an expert in disguises.

These little ones went totally unnoticed as they hatched their diabolical plan and executed it in complete obscurity.

emergency alert

The tummy mountain emergency response system has sounded for the first time in ages today. Tummy mountain can be at times perilous indeed. Right now the little ones have had advanced sightings of a pair of tigers in the long grass. Lurking.

My observations of their markings and behaviour has led me to believe that it is a couple of young males of the rare sub-species panthera tigris rambunctious, commonly known as the "Bengal Noisy Tiger"

a piece of tummy mountain: chapter 2

It was time to get some of the paint out and splosh it around. It seems that the little ones are having many last minute adventures before the sun finally sets and they all have to come in for dinner.
as evening falls on tummy mountain.
these little ones are looking at their reflections by the river.

news flash: tears on tummy mountain

once was a tree

Today on tummy mountain the little ones have been mourning the departure of a dear old friend. Where once there was a tree, now there is no more. A mere relic remains of this grand lifeform, once the home of birds, with limbs made for climbing, trails of ants, laneways for ladybirds, and an avenue of exploration for the very small. News services across the globe have paid tribute to this tree including the front page of Etsy which ran at half mast yesterday evening.
